Is it just me, or did Orillia's pizza options get WAY better over the past year? As a self-proclaimed pizza connoisseur I've taken it upon myself to highlight my personal favourites. I've put together a list (in no particular order) of the pizza places I think you NEED to eat at in 2017.
Rustica Pizza Vino is one of the newer restaurants in town and specializes in their Neapolitan-style pizza. They have a great combination of some classic toppings as well as some that you may not find at most places. The pizza is cooked in a 900 degree oven and all of the ingredients are either home grown or purchased locally.
Just by reading the name - you know it's going to be good. Cooked in an 800 degree wood burning oven, the pizza at 800 degrees has both great toppings and great crust! Also fairly new to downtown Orillia, 800 degrees has helped lead the charge in Orillia's growing pizza variety!
Unlike the previous two locations, Tops in Pizza has been a local mainstay for over forty years. Tops has been a local favourite since 1974 and has done so by keeping it simple and classic. When you enter the restaurant, it's like the owners are welcoming you into their home and their food is made with a lot of love and passion.
Ok, now here is something a little bit different for you. I admittedly stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and was very impressed! At Garlic Democracy you get to design your own custom individual pizza. Everything from the dough, to the cheese to the toppings is up to you. Once you've designed your perfect pizza, they make it right in front of you. About 10 minutes later, your pizza is ready to go. The experience was very cool and was backed up by great tasting pizza!
I've been eating slices of Grillers pizza since highschool. Perhaps the nostalgia is what's so appealing to me - but I'm pretty sure it's the sauce! I'm a sucker for good pizza sauce, and Grillers has some great pizza sauce. Whether you want a slice, or a large pizza Grillers has plenty of option for you!
This post was supposed to focus specifically on Orillia - but it would be irresponsible of me to not mention Nino's Italian Restaurant. Since 1971, Nino's has been making what I believe to be Barrie's best pizza! If you're ever heading south and you need some good pizza - Nino's Italian Restaurant is where you should stop!
